Junior League Members Help Build Playground

Beautiful weather and over one hundred volunteers were the perfect combination for the KABOOM playground build at Sojourn Shelter and Services.  During July 2013's KABOOM build, our JLS members served in a variety of roles.  Working with community volunteers from Blue Cross/Blue Shield and other local organizations, JLS members hauled mulch, mixed and poured concrete, and assembled/stabilized the playground components.  When the day was complete, the playground included a main climbing structure with slides, a rock wall, firetruck climber, swings, and more!

Sojourn, which is most known for providing emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence, also offers individual counseling, educational group services, community referrals and advocacy for clients, a confidential, 24-hour hotline for emergencies/support, and much more.  The playground will be surrounded by a secure fence which will allow children and families who are staying at the shelter the opportunity to play in a safe, secure, and confidential setting.
